university and accommodation funding

Aged19, starting university, locally in October 2006, a 1 year foundation course then 3 years engineering degree, what funds and grants are available to someone with no money, no accommodation and no family support please?

  • There Are Some Grants Available To You And Loans That The Local Authorties Can Help U With, You Should Try Ringing Them Up And Try The Governments Funding For Students Too.

    if you click on 'search for funding' in the green bit on the left hand side, on the search page there is a link on the right to hardship funds. you need to register to see the details and i don't know eligibility criteria, but it might be worth a look.

    If the foundation bit of the course doesn't count as 'advanced' enough to get normal student loan, then worth asking local council and housing associations if there's any supported housing for under 25s. Google for Bristol Foyer and it will come up with a link to that one: you may find links to other schemes as well. (Sorry but it's late and I'm too tired to do it for you!)

    Contact the engineering or admissions department at the university you're planning on going to, they'll know what grants and schlorships etc you can apply for and what help that university specifically can help you with.

    Looking at general places can help too, but with the new fees many university departments are starting up their own bursaries etc so it would definently be worth asking.

    Make sure you know what you need help with and what rough costs are, for example how much is accomodation, if you sound prepared and determined you're more likely to get somewhere (in my experience ;) )
