viewing savings as a debt

Anyone who has come out of debt and proceeded to save money, viewing their savings total as somewhat a "debt to themselves"?

this is what im doing and it works (barely been in debt tho except student OD which i came out of within like 3 months - think i just been lucky lookin at some of my mates from uni!)

any thoughts?

  • Yes I agree. Having a light-bulb moment and resolving to tackle your debts usually brings about a change in attitude to money.

The fundamental thing I have realised is that, in our lifetimes, we earn a finite amount. And once it's gone it's gone  And when you think of money that way, it seems too precious to waste. I can do without a flat screen telly and a fortnight in Magaluf, if the reward further down the line will be a early, comfortable retirement.

So yes, I do feel an obligation to save. I work bloody hard for my money and to squander any more of it would be a huge shame.
