My 'Diamond' Engagement Ring is Cubic Zirconia !!!

I'm in shock.....the diamond engagement ring I've been wearing since 1988 lost a stone and I took it to a local jewellers for repair only to be told that all the stones in the ring are not actually diamonds but cubic zirconia !!!
I can't believe it... luckily for my husband, we were together when we chose and bought the ring otherwise he would have looked a right cheap skate!!
We bought it in 1988 from Ratners ( i know, i know!) for just under £200 and understood it to be a diamond daisy cluster ring in 9ct gold. There's no way we would have paid that money for a cubic zirconia ring over £20 years ago.
Don't suppose there is a thing I can do about it now though is there?? Ratners no longer existant and all that.
Don't get me wrong, i still love the ring, after all it's what it represents that's important, not how much it cost, it wouldn't have mattered if it had come out of a cracker, as long as i knew....Absolutely gutted at the thought that Ratners has taken us both for a ride and let us believe that for the last 21 years i've been wearing a 'diamond' ring and let us pay a fortune (back then) for cubic zirconia
Any thoughts anyone, or anyone had a similar experience ??

Seen some daisy diamond rings on eBay lately if you are interested in getting a real diamond?
Or you can ask the jeweller to make your ring in diamonds instead.

What bad luck! I so feel for you.
As you say though it is the thought that counts. I know, not much help now.
For anybody else reading this, only buy diamonds from a reputable supplier!0 -

Anyway, I've bought diamonds off eBay before and make sure they either: come with a valuation or take them to a reputable jeweller once received for an appraisalKavanne

It probably happens more often than you think
OH got me a pair of really expensive diamond earings only for me to open them and close up they are terrible qualityDon't get me wrong i'd never return them ever sentimental i guess
hehe.
Tbh i don't think you have a claim against them especially if they no longer exist. So i guess you go on loving your cubic zirconia ring no one else will know otherwise unless you say soOr you could maybe try take the ring somewhere reputable and replace the cubic zirconia with diamonds?
Maybe you could do it on a big wedding anniversary or something0 -
I presume the local jewellers IS reputable lol!?0
