I have been getting calls from a company calling themselves Vonage. From what I can work out they are trying to sell me a package for £5.99 a month where I use my modem as a phone line.
I have never reached the end of the conversation as the advisor waffles on so much asking me questions about my current bill etc I am reluctant to answer such specific details for security reasons. Especially as I have not contacted them and not heared of them before or requested they call.
Has anyone got any experience with Vonage as it does sound tempting.
Many thanks

I am with Vonage, I use it as a business line but if you do want to go ahead then go via Quidco as you get £60 commission (or you did when I signed up). If you take a look at their website you'll see if it is any good for you as you can choose a package with free overseas calls for around £8 a month, but I do not use this and just have the basic package. It was relatively easy to set up and no question on getting the cashback.
The only complaint as such I do have is that the phone line is sometimes a bid dodgy but I am not sure whether that is my line of the phones I bought from then (the basic ones).
If someone calls and I do not answer in time I can log into my Vonage account and it tells me when they called and the number. If a message is left on the answerphone I get it via email on realplayer (I think) so I can hear it on my PC wherever I am.
All in all it has not been bad sonsidering the cashback. I believe there is no minimum term so you could sign up with the cashback and then cancel it so it has not cost you anything then.
If you want to know anything else then please ask.

ETA: It says there is a disconnection fee if cancelling withn 12 months on the quidco page but this must be a new thing as I did not have this when I signed up in September time.0 -
Hi and thank you blue_monkey
I don't make any calls outside the UK. Mainly local and to myfriends and to family in Wales. I do make the occasional mobile call if I need to know where my o/h is though
Is it really only £5.99 a month or is this a gimmik to make me signup (then it increasews after a tie in ends)?
Do I have to have my computer on to receive or make calls?
Can I access the voicemail without havong to be online or even without the computer on?
What about accessing my answerphone remotely (say I am away in Wales and want to see what messages might have been left on my answerphone - I can currentlyu just dial my h ome number and access my answerphone via a pin code).
What if I dont have a Quidco account?
Is the £60 commission from Quidco a one of or every month?
SORRY FOR SO MANY Questions! I have tonns more so do Vonage have a website please save you having to answer the FAQs?

It really is only £5.99 unless you make calls to 0845 or 0870 number - which I have to, I think my bill is around £7 a month with these added on.
If you do not have a quidco account then sign up before you join, you'll lose £5 from your first payment recieved when opening the account so after the money has been verified (and you can see all of this happening online on your Quidco account) you'll get £55 deposited into your bank account (or Paypal if you choose this option but they take commission from you!!). If you do not use quidco then please do - we have had around £500 this year from switching phone/Insurance/Shopping etc..
Yes Vongae have a website but if you want the Quidco commission you must sign up with quidco and go via the green link that says 'click here to visit this merchant and earn cashback'. It is a one off payment - but free money is free money!! You can find all of the details on the vonage site http://www.vonage.co.uk/index.php?lid=nav_index but for free UK calls it is £5.99 a month.
It might well increase as anything does but I signed up in September and I've nt been told yet of any increase.
I am not sure about accessing remotely as I have not had to do this but you can access your answerphone by your vonage phone, when you pick the phone up it has a funny dialling tone to tell you there is a message but you can get phones that have the answerphones on the sets (IYKWIM). You do not have to have the PC on but I just find it easier.
Anything else then please ask, it is no problem but Casualty is about to start so it might not be until after that!!0 -
Paypal payments over 50 quid don't attract a fee anymore (I did one not that long ago from Slicethepie, and didn't get charged, same when I sent it to my bank).0

But they attract a fee when the money goes in doesn't it? You do not have to pay for taking it out but unless you have a personal account (and not many people have these now) then you get charged for payments into your Paypal account.0

Vonage service works over your existing broadband line. You need to have a good
broadband line with at least 8Mb download and good amount of upload spped. Or else
your voice will be very bad quality. If you use your broadband for heavy download
then it will effect the transfer while the person is on the phone. The bandwidth for
voice is given the priority when there is a call.. But the amount of badwidth to be
used
for the voice can be set by loging onto your vonage account. But this will effect your
voice quality.
Have a read on the vonage site. I been using vonage for 2 years now and now I am
going over to Sky. Mainly because vonage line is not too secure as it comes over my
existing broadband and also the adapter it uses, if that breaks then u have no phone
at all.0 -
Note that Vonage along with Skype and Tesco are the dearer VoIP providers.
Vonage is ideal for those who need their hands holding.
There are plenty of other VoIP providers out there with different pricing structures.
If you have a BT line, then there's no real point in Vonage at that price as for the same money or less you can get the same 24/7 calls to UK landlines.
With Vonage (like other VoIP providers with the right kit) you don't need the PC to be on to make and receive calls, but you need your router and the device to connect phones up to the internet (ATA - analogue telephone adapter) to be switched on at all times (you can get routers with built-in VoIP ports).
If you have cable broadband, then you can dump the usual landline (however the way VM now price items, the savings in dumping the line may only be a couple of pound).
I was VoIP only for over 3 years and for those 3 years I spent not much over £10 (yes, £10 for the 3 years, granted some of that was due to topping up with a mobile that I had earned free credit on).
I do now have a landline again, due to VM offering to install it free, free line rental and free evening and weekend calls, along with discounted broadband and TV (which I had with them), but still use VoIP for when not included on the VM line.
Now with Vyke which charge 2.1p per call. I'd have to make over 285 daytime calls each AND every month before Vonage would work out cost effect for me. If I don't make any calls, it costs me nothing, with Vonage it is still £5.99
Have used VoIPStunt in the past (which I still have an account with and do still use) I also use Sipgate. It's PAC not PAC Code, it's MAC not MAC Code, it's PIN not PIN Number, it's ATM not ATM Machine, it's LCD not LCD Display, it's DVD not DVD disc... It's no one not noone, It's a lot not alot, It's got not gotten... Panini is the plural of panino - there is no S!!(OK my English isn't great, the sciences, maths & IT are my strong points!)0 -

Plus calls to 0845 and 0870 numbers are now free with BT if you are on the 24/7 package, I have recently switched back to BT from Primus as it now works out cheaper for me per month.0
