Cavity wall insulation - worth it?

Hi,
I wasn't sure which was the best forum to post this in, hope it's ok here.
We are thinking of getting cavity wall insulation as our house is really cold. We have single glazing which we're really keen to replace but can't afford to at the moment.
The wall insulation is a much cheaper option (£198), but I wondered if we'd notice a difference considering we have single glazing so lose a fair bit of heat through the windows? Is it worth paying for, or should we just put the money towards double glazing?
Has anyone noticed a difference after having cavity wall insulation?
Thanks

I did - my house is warm and toasty, and my gas bills are much lower than friends who have cold houses.
Call your energy supplier - most are offering cavity wall insulation for around £150 now. Also search this forum for info on insulating single glazed windows.0 -
30% heat loss in a double glazed house with no cavity wall insulation
20% loss with no loft insulation
without double glazing I'm not sure but it will make a big difference0 -
Whether you have to pay or not I would definitely have it done if I had cavity walls well worth the investment0

You could make the same argument the other way around; is it worth doing the windows if you don't do the cavity walls?! Each improvement you make to the insulation reduces the total surface area available for heat loss. This is a good article

My aunt lives in a two bed semi, with a patio doors leading to a conservatory on the back (i.e. not great for insulation). She was very impressed with her cavity wall insulation, saying she had to turn the heating down.
It may also be worth considering as a sales advantage, should you choose to move. I understand energy efficiency is part of the HIPs, and surely would be something many buyers would look for after this cold winter and the high energy prices.

DIYnot.com is a good source of information on Cavity Walls.

If your house has either damp or condensation? it's worth noting that some people say it's became worse after they've had their Cavity walls filled:eek:.0
