My husband is now 3 months behind with his payments to barclaycard. He is in court next friday, 13th feb, going br. Today I have just received a phone call asking for him from a company called mercers, who are they. if they call again and ask for him what should he say. Can they do anything to him before the 13th feb.

Sounds like a Debt Collection Agency. Don't worry, they can't do anything before Friday except perhaps pester you. If you do answer the phone, just say he isn't there and put it down. He could always tell them that he is currently taking advice from one of the Debt Charities, or just don't answer the phone.

They are a Debt Collecting Agency used by Barclaycard. They are well known.

My advice is to stall them if they call again. Have you an answering machine? If so let that answer. I use it to vet phone calls. They won't be able to stop him going BR on Friday. It takes weeks for a CCJ to be placed by which time he will be BR."What does not kill you makes you stronger"0 -
You should answer the phone and say he has gone on a cruise and will sort it out when he gets back :-)0

Mercers are Barlclaycard's own collection department.
They just call themselves a seperate name in an attempt to intimidate you.
There is nothing whatsosever that they can do to you before the 13th. They may threaten to send a "doorstep collector". They have no rights at all and you can happily tell them to "get lost".

Thank you for your quick replies.
Its been 9 weeks since I went br and I must admit now my husband is getting pestered it brings it all back.
One thing I find hard is how quiet it is, nobody calls for me chasing money and very rarely do I get any statements asking for money through, mainly the catalogues do this. I have had several letters from EVERSHEDS is that normal.
Can I ask a question which will probably sound stupid but apart from what the OR wants to take from me or punish me with i.e BRO/BRU is it over, am I know safe and debt free and the creditors not touch me.
I cannot believe that I have had this debt for many years and now its gone. It doesnt feel right.0 -
nida,
I feel exactly the same as you.... it is a mixture of guilt, relief and happiness, and a strange empty feeling - a lot of which I think is waiting for the OR interview. It has been a long time.

If I could have gone BR and it only covered the Northern rock shortfall I would have gladly cleared my overdraft and abbey loan.0 -
No use feeling guilty, it doesn't get you anywhere.
