Thinking of taking out an Electrical Emergency & Breakdown Cover policy, anyone have any experience with HomeServe?

i have several homeserve policies and have used most of them lots of times with no problems
yes they do call but you can have your details removed from their calling lists quite easily by telephoning them and ask them to remove your details
hope that helps0 -
The electrical policy is one of the better products offered by HomeServe as it has unlimited callouts upto a specified limit per callout (£1000?). Just bare in mind, it covers the electrical wiring and sockets etc but no appliances (such as TV's, washing machines etc).0

I've only had dealings with them in an insurance realm. They do the buildings work for Norwich Union backed policies in the east anglia area at least. I worked for a claims management company where we were supposed to liase between homeserve and the customers. In my experience of dealing with them in 6 months I worked for this company I would not touch them with a bargepole! They used to constantly promise start dates for things, run way behind schedule so customers were waiting months for jobs. They were impossible to get hold of and did not care about customers being given false promises. We also had quite a high number of complaints about workmanship when things eventually were done!0

I have to agree with Becs on this one.
I had a break in last year and Homeserve were appointed by my insurance company to secure the property. The break in was on Saturday night / Sunday morning and the frame of the double glazing unit was damaged. They finally turned up the following Saturday, after repeated phone calls from my husband due to their failure to turn up on several arranged appointments during the week.
Their employee was very annoyed, as our joiner had replaced the unit the day before. He told my husband that he should have contacted them to let them know they were not required - my husband pointed out that he had been calling them all week and their service was supposed to be 24hour call out - who was in the wrong!!
Footnote - there was a break in at the office I work in a few weeks ago. I happened to be in reception when Homeserve turned up 2 days after the event. They also had the name of our firm wrong on their joblist, I can only assume that they spent two days driving up and down the street looking for the mistaken address!Sealed Pot Challenge member No. 874 £13.54 / £5002010 Crazy Clothes Challenge member No. 122 £0.75 / £100100 Day Challenge member No. 40 No toiletries until ALL potions and lotions have been used up, ditto for makeup, no magazines, no visits to the vending machine at work:beer::j:beer:0 -
In the long run, you are better off paying for the repairs yourself - if that wasn't true, how would they make any money? I take a much more relaxed approach and save the money and don't panic when things go wrong. If the washing machine/boiler/whatever breaks, so what?0

We had our home insurance with NU but did not renew after the service we received from Homeserve. They claimed that they had carried out work to our house that they clearly had not. Thankfully OH had the foresight to write this on the form (with carbon copy)they got him to sign but we still had a boat load of hassle from them tbh.0

We have our electrics covered with british gas along with the boiler/heating option. have used them a few times due to the strange electrics in this new home we bought 8 yrs ago. I think they came within the hour DD has special needs so made sure when we took it out they would respond asap. She is really scared of the dark. British gas don't phone as much as homeserve, we have drainage cover with them some weeks we have 2-3 calls:mad: despite telling them we do not need any other cover, my husband always passess the phone to me. Last time I told them not to bother calling again as I had all the cover I wanted. Again we have had to use there services a few times due to blocked drains but the response has been within 2 hours.0
