How on earth have we spent £139.98 in one month? And how can I pay for this - I'm so skint! As it's a final bill can I make arrangements to pay?

They should be able to spread the balance over a four month period.

Also ask BG about cancellation charges, not many tariffs have them these days so you may be ok.

Also ask BG about Energy Efficiency and what is best for your home, they may be able to suggest a few things like a new Economy 7 meter whihc means you can run electric heating cheaply at night.

The last thing you need if you have electric heating running off day time electricity is Economy 7.

Am really annoyed now that am no longer on the Click Energy 6 tariff for electric as I am for gas (luckily). I'm stuck on their standard tariff and everyone is saying don't switch tariff yet because they are meant to all drop prices? I don't want to get stuck with a cancellation charge so I'll have to sit tight for a while.

Am also a bit annoyed because my Dad bought me the heater as a present to help save money instead of using the gas lounge fire in our old house!
(new house has no gas lounge fire)

Don't switch supplier (not tariff) if you are already with someone keenly priced, are you? You can make up to £70 cashback if you switch dual fuel via somewhere like Quidco. At the very least swap to the cheapest, no ties tariff offered by BG.

There isa no charge for switching unless you have accepted a fixed price tariff, have you?

  • Thanks for all your input. I spent ages last night comparing price per kw unit and totalling how much my current bill would compare with other tariffs:

For the gas, ClickEnergy 6 is the best tariff for me, better than their standard and their new websaver1 tariff, so am sticking with what I'm already on.

As for the electric, my bill cost £138.98 with NPower, it would have cost £126.77 with Ebico, £114.97 with BGas Standard and £107.44 with the new websaver1 tariff.

I've just changed from NPower Standard to BGas standard (hence the huge last bill), so already I'm going to save money on my usage, but I don't really want to be signing up for anything with a cancellation fee (£30 with BGas websaver1) until all prices have dropped.

So for now am with an ok-ish tariff (cheaper than Npower anyway) and I'll see what companies start to offer.
I wouldn't want an Economy 7 meter as I'm not a night owl!
If I do decide to change, I will register with Quidco and get some cashback.

As for my current bill, am going to ring them and try and pay them back as and when I can, over a few months. They've got no choice - I can't pay back quickly what I haven't got! I could prob pay it over 3-4 months.

Am going to read my meter each day this week and see if I can get my usage down even more, I've already turned the heater off so I'll see what else might be doing some damage.
