    Hi, folks.

Just dropped back in to say something about the crossword.

In fact, a few weeks ago, my DW told me about the quicklink way to submit the answers. She had spotted the URL on submission, and suspected it may do the trick. I had just experimented with it to check that it worked, when another MSE-er PMed me to discuss it. S/he had previously discussed it with another MSE-er/PB-er.

A short discussion took place via PMs. The opinion seemed to be that the crossword solution would continue to be posted as before. I went along with this, though pointed out the lack of consistency between posting links for the daily quizzes but not for the crossword.

I wish I had been more of the strong individual I claim to be by saying then that I thought it would be better to post the link only. Though, to be fair to myself, at that time I wasn't sure that the link for the completed solution worked. In fact, until the recent winner posted that s/he had won from the link, I remained unsure, as although DW had used it, we had no evidence that it actually sent the whole correct solution.

Congratulations to Jules_2005 for spotting the URL for the completed crossword, and also for having the courage to post it.

I did think, on reading Darragh's response to the new development, that he was going to stop the link from working, but clearly this is not the case. Since I have not done the crossword since Monday (Tuesday 00:00), I have no idea of any changes Darragh or his programmers may have made.

I do actually think that posting the link is better, as those who enjoy completing the crossword do not have their pleasure reduced by having the solution sully their success in solving the thing!

Not sure when I'll be back on here, so have a good weekend, folks!

Sometimes I think there aren't enough hours in the day to fix everything!

Ah - Droopsnout, you'll probably see this response in about six pages time if you drop back ;)

I don't think the link is better - rather just as valid. For purposes of getting into the draw each day it's great for people who can now save the few minutes of faffing around typing and that's cool.

For others though, who like to do the crossword, having the grid posted is a useful thing - or at least I've always found it so. Like having the answers in the back of a puzzle book you've got the option of a quick nudge if you need it :grinheart

I suppose it could be considered a spoiler for anyone with a photographic memory who can't help taking it in as they swoosh down the page - but it's relatively easy not to catch sight of it at all if you set out to PB before loading this thread.

This is purely opinion though - and if others prefer to see the grid nixed from the board I will still stagger through on my own :D
