will there be any more help with gas rises?
im scared about the 25% gas rises quoted in the paper - i have already seen my bills go up by £15 a week since christmas and they seem to be getting worse - i am a full time carer with a disabled husband - would we be able to get any help if the bills do get too much? we are on meters for gas and electricity for british gas - we also got the £60 rebate just been given for british gas/electricity......just worried we wont be able to keep the house warm.....
thanks
thanks

I know what you mean being a carer myself. You have to have the house warm all day and night in some cases..it costs a fortune! There is no allowance for this either that I am aware of?? Elderly people do get a bit of help but if you are younger there is nothing as far as I know

When I was on a meter for electricity it was charged at a higher rate. That might be worth checking out, and see if it's cheaper to swap to paying by DD.magoogy wrote:we are on meters for gas and electricity for british gas - we also got the £60 rebate just been given for british gas/electricity......just worried we wont be able to keep the house warm.....

yes i will check whether it will be cheaper to have the meters taken out...they might not do this though as when i asked before they said they couldnt take them out.....thanks spendless
d&dd - my home is like a furnace sometimes but it helps hubby having it warm as he has poor circulation because of his disability......0 -
Spendless is right about the meters there is a surcharge added to what you pay for your gas and electric when we moved here we went over to DD when we found that out.I also get a reduction for paying DD and dual fuel I think (will check for you)I think a lot of companies offer some sort of sweetner for signing up for DD? This issue is brought up a lot on the carers forums as you say we have to keep the house a certain temp and if you're anything like we are we don't often go out so the heatings never off, plus we get through so much hot water etc.Are you on a water meter or normal? We found out about a rebate our water company do for people with disabilities which may help you.We are on a meter and hardly pay anything as it is but if you do have higher bills they cap it so you don't pay any more than £19 a month0

Hi Mag.....Equigas/Equipower, don't charge extra for pre-pay meters, tho they have not been on the scene very long, so an unknown quantity. Supposedly 'not for profit' company.0

d&dd - my water is £8 a week - i wish i didnt pay more than £19 a month - i have two teens though and hubby needs a bath every day so im sure if i was on a meter the bills would be sky high - just noticed you mention capped price? is that with yorkshire water?0

Hi Magoogy I'm with surrey water but do ring yorkshire water to see if they have a similar scheme lots of places do.I found out about it through contact a family and I'm sure they said it applied countrywide?I also sent off for the free energy saving lightbulbs through disability now, will dig out the address for you every little bits helps! Also if you have use of a room specifically for your husbands disability eg an extra toilet you may be entitled to a council tax banding reduction.
