Any help please?! Quite urgent
Hi everyone
Just a quick question, does anyone know who we would ring to find out if gas is connected to our house? and if there isn't how much it would roughly be to get it connected?
We have got a solid fuel boiler which has stopped working and we have been told it needs scrapping.
Are there any grants that could help with the cost as i'm really worried that we can't afford to get our heating system sorted especially with having a baby and a toddler. At the moment during this cold period we are without heating and hot water!

Is there mains gas close to where you stay? Are you in a rural or urban area? What part of the country are you in?
Your best bet would be to call the National Grid - there's info on their website

The likelihood with Grants is that they'll take a fair while to put in placeand it will depend on your financial situation (benefits etc) as to whether you're eligible or not.

Did your solid fuel boiler work off an open fire? If the boiler is removed, can you still use the fire as a source of heat in the house? Do you have an electric immersion heater on the water boiler ?(the reason I ask is that my parents have an open fire, but the boiler also has an electric immersion that they can use in the summer when they don't have the fire on)
Hope this helps?0 -
Thanks for replying.
Its not an open fire its a closed boiler in the kitchen. We do have an immersion heater but don't like using as when we used it in the summer our electric bill was £1000!! Its only ususally about £300.
I'm not sure if we will get the grants now as we don't get income support or council tax benefits. I work part time and my OH is out of work and we have got 2 children under 3. I wish i lived in a council house, at least they would sort my heating out!! Everyone on our street has got gas except us.Total Debt [STRIKE]£36323[/STRIKE] [STRIKE]Dec 2012[/STRIKE] £19000 January 20160
