Does anyone know where the the cheapest place to buy Norton. They want at least£44.00 to renew online. I know sometime some of the stores have in on offer for £25.00? W.H. Smiths had it a few weeks ago, but they were out of stock.

I saw it on amazon recently for £19.something, nearly got it. Also heard PC world had it for a similar price.
If you want a better idea of what the best price is, go to pricerunner.co.uk which has comparisons of places that sell it online.0 -
Personally, I don't think Norton is very good - it doesn't seem to detect viruses very well. I would go for Avast! or AVG which are both completely free and much better.Undergrad law student. Take my advice with a pinch of salt! :rotfl:0

If you know anyone with a costco card, I just paid around £14 for the 2009 version that covers 3 computers.0

At Martin's recommendation, I also gave up with Norton at renewal time and switched to Avast! and so far, so good.
I've put Avast! on my parents and my brothers' PC's now too - all using it without incident.
It does automatic *daily* updates and seems to be very good - and it is completely free. Why does nobody say Thank You anymore??:mad:Debt Free as of September 2011 :jSealed Pot 2009 number 334 - £100 Saved! yey!!Sealed Pot 2010 number 334 - £116.51 Saved! Yey!! YIPPEE!!0 -

It depends, you cannot just say what works for you will work just as well for other people- you have no idea what their needs are and their needs may well be very different to yours.
For me, I cannot stand pop ups, so things like avast just wind me up big time!
I also when installing, got blown away by the many options on AVG as there is no help on the free version, its really confusing unless you really know exactly how the whole thing works and what exactly your doing when you tick/unselect certain boxes. I ended up making any flash on my computer unusable and it had to be put back to factory resettings as it was so screwed after using AVG. Its not that AVG is bad, its that if you don't understand exactly what your doing for the many many steps, your really at risk of making things a mess.
I think if the OP has asked for Norton, then its his/her choice, and though I can see your point that there are free versions out there, its really his right to choose what he/she wants.0 -
Norton 2009 is rated as being faster and lighter on sys resoures that 2008
2008 was rated as having good firewall and as for virus and malware averaged well. when i looked into different progs and then bought v.2008 just over a year ago of the diferent progs Norton IS seemed to come out top for its breadth of features and performance others did well on virus or malware detection but fell down in other areas, dont know how it fares now so this info of limited use.
if you cant buy from costco
i bought OEM NIS 08 last year worked fine, downloads updates fine.
OEM is version bundles with computers so you just get booklet and CD, no nice packaging, otherwise same. OEM is for 1 computer as well ithink, not 3 if you buy standard version.
buy OEM version from, both stores have hefty del charges so one or other may be better if you find somethingelse at that store to buy:

£13.74 inc vat
19.49 with del

£16.04 inc. VAT then del on top0 -
If you really want to stick to Nortons you may well run into the problem that put me off, the straw that broke the camel's back so to speak.
The fee for online renewal quite shocked me, so I went out and bought a newer version and went to install it after supposedly removing the old one, and it would not install. Can't remember exact details but basically it was upset that there was already a version on there and we were trying to put a new one on top of that.
Moral of the story - unless you are capable of weeding out bits of Nortons down to registry level on the computer you are not going to be able to put a new one on to replace an old one! Fortunately I could do it but I am fully aware that a lot of people cannot.
Nortons want you to keep renewing online, it's better money for them and it keeps you loyal.
I now use AVG with no problemsWhat is this life if, full of care, we have no time to stand and stare0
