persistent leaking WC pan connector

I am trying to fit a new WC and couple it to the waste pipe. The position of the new toilet is about 4" to the left and 1 foot out from the waste pipe which has a been fitted with a Multikwik 90 deg bend to convert it from the vertical to the horizontal. The coupling here is quite sound.
My friendly plumbers merchant recommended a Multikwik flexi connector but this has proved ineffective due to the tightness of space - the coupling direct to the pan is under a sideways stress and causes a leak here.
I have now fitted a 45deg Multikwik with a solid pipe but again there is a persisitent leak not all the time but just after the toilet is flushed. The joints have been fitted exactly to the maker's instructions and are a really tight fit.
I am wondering whether using 2 couplings in tandem is a no-no even though they look fine, or whether a 45deg bend followed by a 90 deg bend is just too much for the flushing pressure. Also how much fall is recommended from pan to the waste pipe?
Any advice would be appreciated - I've been bu...ring around with this pan for 2 days - in and out with no joy and the frustration is driving me nuts.

  • Whoa you can see it we cant, any chance of taking a photo?

I put two flexible hoses in tandem in our bog and its ok (so far)

Its supposed to fall no less than 1 in 4 but, tbh, at the point of flush there is that much flow that even a level 'no fall' would work, its just really further down the line, when it all slows down that the 1 in 4 really comes into play

There's no water there once the flush has completed! Waste pipes do not have standing water in them.

    Pics would help a lot.

Can't be sure if this is helpful without seeing a pic like the others say, but I also had my move my loo about 4" to the left. I bought the 2 differing sizes of flexi from B&Q but neither were flexible enough, but then I noticed that they also sold like a really flexi concertina one that will do an 'S' shape if ness, or whatever shape you need basically.

Was about £17 mind, so prob cheaper at a plumbers merchants, but did the trick for me. Hardly any fall in it but doesn't seem to be a prob.

    HTH :)
  • Thanks for the responses guys. I've just kicked over a bucket of water in this errant bathroom so have left it in frustration for today.
I'll put up some photos tomorrow when my blood pressure has subsided!

I took a photo with a meter rule in shot of the varous bits - the distances and took the old bits into plumbase and they figured it out - involving a flexible (like a cencertina) pipe thing because of the angle - all worked out well.... we had tricky angles looked a bit like this http://www.thomasdudley.co.uk/rigiflex.asp

  • Thanks again for your support guys.
This morning I got hubby to put the brand new (£300+pan) up onto his workbench seal off all the outlets and then fill the pan to the top with water so that we could have a visual inspection of it.
VOILA! - there is a hidden internal flaw in this pan - water seeps through some internal pathway and appears at the rear corner in 2 separate places.
Tomorrow I'll phone the suppliers (Shades) and demand a replacement and also see if they can offer some compensation for the sheer aggro this has caused including the cost of all the (now uneccesary) extra fittings I've bought.
Regarding "Shades" I bought 2 grand plus of their gear for our new en-suite conversion - 5 large boxes arrived - 2 had parts missing - one had one major part supplied which had been packed in the wrong box causing me to have a 50 mile round trip to the Merchant's to obtain a replacement; on inspection this replacxement had clearly been used previously. And now this!
So any of you thinking of buying "Shades" bathroom stuff - you have been warned!
