Fraud Flag on Credit Report - Advice please!

A couple of weeks ago, I transferred two credit cards onto my Barclaycard, which I hadn't used in about two years. The two credit cards were both in my name and regular payments had been going to them from my Barclays current account (which Barclaycard have details of).

The following day I received a phone call from Barclaycard but I was out. So they sent a letter, asking me to contact the fraud department urgently.

Turned out that as I hadn't used my card for some time, they had suspected that the transfer might have been done by somebody else. I had to answer a whole list of security questions to prove that it was legitimate!

My question is...does anyone know if this would go in my credit report as a fraud flag? Or does that only apply when opening new accounts? And also, does it only appear on the credit report if the fraud has been correctly identified/proved?

I'm applying for a new job soon and due to the nature of the work, they will have to carry out a security check. I'm now really worried that this may affect my search.

I'm going to phone Barclaycard tomorrow but was hoping to hear from anyone who may have had a similar experience. I hope I am worrying over nothing!

I think you're worrying unnecessarily, but check out page 17 of Experian's "Your credit report explained" booklet for information on CIFAS warnings. You can view/download it from http://www.experian.co.uk/consumer/index.html
  • I wouldn't have thought it would be flagged up on your CRA report as you sorted it all out with Barclaycard. I botched up a payment using my Sainsburys Visa one night - I'd left out something on the payment screen and in pure frustration and "Blinking work you eejeet computer" which resulted in me getting a call from Sainsburys as it looked as if someone was attempting to use my card fraudlently as I tried several times till the payment finally went throw. When I looked at my CRA report last month nothing like that showed up.
