Newly plastered wall.... blistered!

Wehave recently had a leak from one of the pipes which goes to a radiator. We don't know how long it was leaking for as it was hidden behind some furniture. It was only when we movedthe furniture and accidently knocked the pipe that it gushed everywhere. But evidence on the wall and carpet shows that it my have been laking for quite a while. We have had to claim on the house insurance as the carpet was ruined and the walls needed the plaster knocking off and re-plastering. When the company came and knocked all of the plaster off (bar one little strip where the pipes were) they replastered it all within a day. Three weaks later, with no heating in our lounge and no where to sit...as everything's in one corner, we're still waiting for it to completely dry and about an inch and a half sized blister has formed close to where the leak was and salt has started to form on top of the new plaster where it still seems quite wet. After coming and looking at it, the company now say that there must still be a leak somewhere. We've looked at the new pipes which replaced the leaking ones and can't see any leak. I have spoken to our neighbour who shares the wall and asked if there is anything on her side (ever so politely! lol) and nothing. Is there anything else that could be causing the plaster to blister? Or could it be that the wall had been badly leaked on, that it may stiill have been wet under the original plaster then putting new plaster on top without letting it dry? the company is now saying we have to sort 'the leak' out before they'll do anything... it's quite hard when we can't find one
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I dont know a lot about plastering,as in actual plastering, but have come across loads of things that I have had to rectify, but Jason S should be along sometime to give you advice, but I think the original plaster being still wet, and putting new plaster on could be the cause.
I know this sometimes happens if you apply a coat of paint, and apply another one before the first is completely dry, so I am guessing this could work the same.
Lets wait and see what replies you get, and see if there is any more blistering, if not, and itsjust in that area, I can advise you how to fix it before you paint.:D
Cant you turn your heating on just a tiny bit?, its not advisable anyway to have the heating on full wack whilst plastering drying, as it can cause hairline cracks, but a small bit heat wont hurt.0 -
hi
from what your saying it is called 'efflorecance', where water is trapped in the plasterwork, once this drys out it leaves the salts [from the mosture] in the plasterwork.it could still be coming from the damp wall,
before any re-plastering work should have taken place the wall should have dried out and have been bone dry, this would have rid this problem
you dont say what type of background is behind the plasterwork if it is concreate block or thermalite block they are very porus and would be able to absorb gallons of water over time.
basically without loooking id say it was nothing to worry about, just leave it to dry out naturally, wipe the salts off. once the water has dried out no more salt will appear0 -
