Maintenance/Service Wash

I am looking at doing a maintenance/service wash on my machine. I have been on http://www.washerhelp.co.uk/usage_2.html

The recommendation is to run the machine on empty at 90 degrees (doesn't mention whether you should turn the spin off or reduce the spin speed). My main question is that he recommends you just have the detergent inside, now does he mean directly in the drum or should I put the detergent in the soap dispenser.

Thanks

Any thoughts on the spin speed also gratefully received.

  • Dispense your powder or liquid exactly how you would if it had washing in the machine. My washing machine manual doesn't say anything about the spin speed, so I think you could set it on the lowest spin the machine will allow for a 90degree wash. It will still drain away the same.

Put the detergent in the drum and it should be Arial Biological powder.

Don't bother with the spin if you can rise hold on mine then drain else just go as slow as you can.

Please do not use liquid to do a service wash!!:eek:

Use a biological soap powder, or tablet to do the service wash - just don't use a detergent in the form or liquid or gell!

  • Apologies kazd. I have just googled this (which I should have done before posting) and it says you must use powder. In fact, it is the build up of using washing liquid or gel, that causes the machines to clog up. Next time I promise to engage my brain before my fingers do their typing.

I don't use liquid. I have known for a long time that powder is better than liquid. My friend had a friend who worked for one of the detergent companies, in quite a high position who said the competitors product was the best and that was what they used. What I can't remember is whether he worked for persil or ariel.

Currently I have persil (whites) and I think Ariel (colour) and it has to be one for whites because that contains bleach.

Now I seem to have two opposing answers one for the drum and one for the drawer. So still nt sure which way to go.:rotfl:

  • Me again! Put a bit in the drawer, and a bit in the drum. Close the door and pray. If by some freak of nature, it damages your machine, and you to try and blame me, I will say that some idiot must have hijacked my MSE account :D

Myself, I like Ariel tablets, colour or biological.

I always place the tablets in the drawer, and they just dissolve straight into the drum. Placing the tablets in the drum tends to end with broken fragments of the tablet on the glass, which I'd sooner see working away in the water as they should be.

I won't use Persil tablets, simply because they don't dissolve properly in the drawer.
