Nationwide Faster Payments slippage

  • Absolute rubbish: we have over 100 sort codes; I really don't care to count how many. Across however many accounts, we have 20 million people banking with us, many of whom have more than one account. We managed to get all of them live on one specific date.

And yes, they've had the knowledge long enough that they could have implemented this better.

mmm. not quite the full story is it ? You went live with a single transaction type, transferring values <£1.

Well my Nationwide flex won't even do that, and won't accept faster payments either.

Whether it did it last year or not doesn't really matter, now is what matters - and the "waiting so there's no errors" rubbish just doesn't cut it anymore, when other banks have been working it for a year

Yes, it is the full story. On the first day of FPS officially being in operation, Barclays went "live" for single payments up to the scheme limit of £10,000. Prior to that date we were testing under £1.

If you open a new Flexaccount it is now allocated the sort code '07-02-46' which is the only Nationwide sort code enabled for Faster Payments. That would allow you to receive payments of any size permitted by the sending bank as well as being able to send (wait for it!) amounts up to £10 via the scheme. This is better than having nothing at all since (IMO) Nationwide is just dragging everything out now (e.g. no longer prepared to give a 'completion' date after the previous two 'deadlines' of March and June slipped by) I've been using this since March in conjunction with my 'old' (sort code '07-01-16') account

Single payments - so that's not standing orders, direct debits etc which make up the vast bulk of transfers.

As for the value I think you are wrong, but let's not lose sleep over it, my point is simply that Barclays were no further ahead of the game than the rest of the pack, and I sure ain't defending Nationwide - as one of their frustrated customers I'm deeply angry at not being able to make faster payments.
