Hi guys!
Following a court order made against me yesterday I have just had it confirmed by The Insolvency Service that I will never get my discharge and will be a bankrupt for life. Kinda hard to swallow especially as I never knew that this was a possible outcome, always believed the max was 15yrs.
Obviously there is a reason for it as I am unable to comply with one of their wishes (both sides have agreed that we have reached stalemate) and they do understand my reasons (the OR who attended the court yesterday even admitted that he would do the same if he was in my shoes!!).
I have been advised to get independent legal advice but can not afford a solicitor (on benefits) so wondered if anyone on here could point me in the right direction to get the legal help I require. I am very reluctant to use the CAB as their advice has been completely wrong on several occassions and following their advice has contributed to my being in this situation. I have also tried CCCS and the National Debtline who both told me to phone the insolvency service who then told me to phone CCCS etc etc. Just going round in circles!!
Please do not be put off br by what has happened to me - I do believe it works very well for the majority of people. Unfortunately my circumstances have left me caught between a rock and a hard place!
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Buddy,
Sorry to hear about your situation. May I enquire what kind of situation could lead to lifetime BR?

from a previous thread...This refers to the fact I sold my car two years before I went br and gave most of the money to my parents to help out with a family emergency. At this time I had no arrears and no idea I would eventually need to go br.
Unfortunately due to my parents health and their views on bankruptcy I do not want them to know. I have explained all this many times to my or and given him every single detail apart from my parents contact details.
I have contacted them at every stage, notifying them when I had a temp job and of any changes in my circumstances and have bent over backwards to comply with everthing they have requested apart from my parents details (although I have explained in detail many times my reasons for witholding this one bit of info).
I am not prepared to add extra stress to my parents life or make my mum's health suffer just so my OR can tick a box on his form. I am prepared to take the consequences for my "breaking the law" over this, just need to know what to expect and what the consequences are etc so I can try to prepare myself. Now we all know how it felt to play in the band on the Titanic...0 -

Hi buddy21, i am reading between the lines here but i believe your discharge has been suspended due to non co-operation. Thats not exactly the same as BR for life, but as i doubt you will change your stance on the matter(again reading between the lines)so it may be as good as.
Not sure if we can help, but feel free to PM if you want to talk in more detailThats it, i am done, Blind-as-a-Bat has left the forum, for good this time, there is no way I can recover this account, as the password was random, and not recorded, and the email used no longer exits, nor can be recovered to recover the account, goodbye all ………….0 -
sorry to hear about your situation, i hope you get things sorted0

So you haven't really hidden anything from them except an opportunity for them to confirm what you have said (as if you'd lie about that). I also would have thought something you did 2 years prior to your BR for an amount that isn't substantial wouldn't make much difference. Presumably you weren't thinking of BR at that time.
I wish you well and hope you can get it sorted out. Keep posting - if nothing else we can give you moral support!

Hi Buddy,
Really admire your stance. Of course your parents are more important than the regulations. All the very best to you.
