Not sure about why the Hire Lease is not the same as a hire purchase, but for the more technical stuff like this, i usually have a look at the consumeractiongroup forum. Their 'legal issues' section has alot of good info.

  • After receiving no response on the big £7,000 lease I decided to send a copy of the agreement to trading standards to ask them why I could not cancel the lease as more than 50% has been repaid.

Trading standards response was even better; apparently because I did not sign the document on their premises it is the wrong document. I should have been sent cancelation rights. Therefore to enforce the document they will need a court order, to get a court order they will have to send me cancelation rights, which would mean I have seven days to cancel the agreement.

Trading standards have told me they have had a number of these over the past few months all with the same outcome..... the creditor walks away. :j

Anyone in the same boat send your agreements to trading standards.... its free and impartial advice.

While morally this is slightly wrong I believe as this is a business debt that they are trying to chase me for that I should not be punished for trying to set up a business that would have been successful had the credit crunch not happened.

Nice result Req. Not really heard much of hire leases but i'll need to store that in the memory banks.

    Well done.
