PPI on Egg Credit Card

  • They did the same with my Egg card. They recently gave me back £550 in PPI which was not the full amout but a compromise that I was pretty happy with (after 7 rejection letters!).

The balance of my card was £1380 before that point and has since been brought down by the refunded amount being allocated to my balance.
Almost debt-free, but certainly even with the Banks!

Hi, do you still have a balance on you Egg card? The reason I ask is that although they've agreed to my refund they will only add the funds to my Egg card which I can no longer use and I want a cheque! All I keep getting is "it's our policy"

    Hi,
My refund was sent straight to me I did not have the option of it going towards my outstanding balance

  • My partner had a Credit Card & Personal Loan and on her behalf I sent off two of the MSE PPI reclaim template letters to EGG.

I received replies to both on the same day, the Loan reply said that they will be looking into claims of mis-selling within the next 8 weeks.

The reply for the Credit Card said that because my partner had ticked the box for PPI on the online application form then they are not liable. I can understand their point of view, but I think the implications for PPI and the cost were not obvious when my partner signed up.

Has anyone else found themselves in this position that they have got compensation even though they signed up online? Is it worth continuing?

    Hi there

Do not worry about this type of response because yes this is one of the ones you hear often, so keep at them write back and tell them you want this reconsidered as you are not satisifed with this response and if they do not resolve this you will take forward to the Financial ombudsman service.

I take it that was their first response?

I would write to them until the final response is received where they should confirm the Finanical ombudsman service (FOS) with their complaint procedures.

You could however request a SAR this is a Subject access request where they MUST or should supply everything they have on you going back as far as 6 years, there is a letter template for this on the thread, they have 40 days to comply, but there is a charge of £10 cheque or postal order payment.
    Post by recorded delivery.

Hopefully something will come back to help back the case, but write back to them anyway with a 2nd letter, good luck.;)

In reply - The circumstances were that the PPI was bolted on to my credit card as a freebie for three months. Then, as Egg counted on, I forgot to cancel the policy and ended up paying for 10 months until I got round to cancelling it. I know - not great money saving from me. However, I complained that I never agreed to this and dont recall signing anything. Having chased them up a month or so later, I was asked to wait for a letter they were preparing and then lo and behold . . . a cheque arrived. I just assumed they were doing this across the board. Obviosuly not.

So I dont know why my claim was sucessful with very little effort and others are struggling. My advice - keep persevering and good luck !

    Hi Taxplayer

My story is almost identical to yours but I told them right from the start that I wanted the PPI cancelled after the 3 month free period.

I complained a few years ago and got fobbed off but this time got a repayment to my account in a month.

Also I have had about £1300 worth of PPI charges sitting in my account for 4 1/2 years and have been paying interest on it - surely if the charges were unlawful then so was the interest on thoses charges

    Hi

I just wondered if you received any responses or continued with the PPI on your online Egg account. I have just received a rejection letter from Egg saying I ticked the box on line when I signed up but I know I wouldnt have done that as I was keeping costs to a minimum. I have read somewhere that it defaulted to accept the PPI? Just thought I'd ask how you got on and if you pursued it.

    Thanks
