msn - keep getting an error message

I try to login to msn messanger 7.5 and each time i get a message along the lines of messenger has had several failed attempts to log you on, your fire wall may be blocking messanger from conection, please review you firewall status look at your instructions if nessacery. :mad:

I have been through msn help etc etc and i cant work out what to do can anyone help please

btw i have xp, i have norton internet security but it isnt activated yet as its a new laptop in replacement of my broken one

Not been familiar with norton for several years but you will have to open the norton internet security firewall options and check that msn is ticked to allow net access. Also check that the windows default firewall is not blocking it by going to the windows security centre>firewall settings. (This should be off if you have norton though).
Another msn error of mine has been caused by programs applying proxy settings. So if norton settings are fine, check that no proxy settings are interfering. Check in internet explorer. Tools>internet options>connection>Lan settings>proxy.
Unless you do connect through a proxy server this will be blank.

It also may be a messenger service error. MSN may be having Probs.

thanks everyone i am now back on my pc and msn is running fine its definatly something to do with my new laptop, so i have decided to stick to my pc its now working fine, thanks anyway

there is a known problem with some PC's (who knows why ??? ) and MSN 7.5, these can be cured by rolling back to version 7 (which is almost the same !!) , there is another thread on here somewhere with the link to download version 7
