Breakthrough!

 Ironic I know but I am so happy I just wanted to tell everyone that my husband has finally come to admit we are struggling in debt!!!

Yes I said WE!!!! Previously (and some of you may know this) it has always been me who has had the worry and honesty to admit we need to do something. But hubby actually broke down earlier this week and said he couldnt take anymore. So I seized the moment and comforting him I said "well then its time to stop pretending and start facing facts and go to CCCS for help" and he agreed!

I am so pleased!!! I am proud WE are dealing with OUR debts!!!!

Woo hooo! :rotfl:

Sorry had to share the good feeling :T :D Now back to being serious.

  • Is it possible to have a landline but no telephone?

What I mean is if we wanted to save money and not have a landline and a mobile could we just use our mobile as our main point of contact yet still have a landline just so we can use Broadband internet and Sky + service? Or would it be cheaper to have a combination Internet, TV and landline package?

    Thanks

    :D

Yes it is, but you might as well have a phone to recieve calls on, it costs you nothing to recieve them! Just use your mobile to make calls. Or isn't that what you're asking?

Tiscali and Talktalk both have very cheap landline & boradband deals. Don't forget to go through quidco!

  • Hi

In a way yes and in another no. What I meant was I am thinking of getting rid of the housphone alltogether and using my mobile to make calls. I dont receive that many to be honest anyway and mainly use the landline for internet access and Sky + compliance. Husband has his own mobile so he can top himself up and we (all those I call regularly) are all on the same network (as with the landline provider) so calls are lower anyway.

Just wondered if it was worth it to snatch back a few more ponds each month to put towards debts?

    Thanks :D

BT Basic is £13.40 every 3 months but you have to prove you're on a low income to qualify http://www.btplc.com/inclusion/Needhelp/BTBasic/cost.htmis there also used to be a package called BT Light user or you could go with Tiscali (and many others) who include free evening and weeknd calls within the broadband package.

Well you obviously have to pay line rental to receive broadband, this could be to BT or to another company (Tiscali etc.). You do not need to have a "call package" with it, but I believe most companies throw this in for free (their most basic one, anyway), so you wouldn't really benefit from having a fixed line with no home phone. It may be worth asking on the utilities board.

P.S. i meant the telephones board, not the utilities board: http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/forumdisplay.html?f=69

  • I don't use my landline apart from dialling 0800 or 0845 numbers because they are so expensive from the mobile. You don't have to give out your landline number to anyone so no-one will call you on it. Just keep a phone handy incase you need to call a company.
