car insurance help please

I have car insurance with a different provider from last year. they have written to me asking for the details of my previous policy (proof of no claims), otherwise they will charge me extra as effectively a driver without a `no claims` history.
The problem is that I can`t remember who last years insurer was! Yes I know its my wrong, but I had a document clear out a fortnight ago and ripped it up. I guess this is the flip side of shopping around for cheaper insurance ie I should keep my documents in better order. Any suggestions please?

Ask your new insurer to do a back-dated check on your vehicle on the MID database, this should bring up your old insurer and policy.
