When you move to University...

I am going to University in September. The 'Start Date' on UCAS is 21st September for one of the unis and the other is the 28th.

My friends want to book a holiday for a week. The earliest we can go is the 17-20th August which means we'd get back around the 27th August (Latest).

Is this going to be enough time to leave for University (I'm living in).

I just don't want this holiday to clash with anything to do with University.

Advice? :D

  • Looks like you have a month to play with.....

Possibly wrong here, but the 21st is most likely to be freshers week and 28th the start date for 2nd years - and your course properly.
People take different things from freshers week. Harshly put, it doesn't really give you anything academically, however, there is no better time to meet people and get used to your surroundings.

Do make sure you are available for a good few days after your results come out as there will be paperwork etc to complete or the clearing procedure if you are unlucky with your grades. Good luck !

When do the grades come out this year? Also, it seas 21st Starting Date for the Course. Wouldn't freshers week be the week before? Sorry, I should have researched this or took it up with the Universities.

I believe that A level results this year come out on 20 August; it's really daft to be away at this time as you may need to be around for Clearing. I wouldn't risk it.

Check on the university's website. If you're not sure where to look, let us know the uni and I'll look it up for you.

Packing and moving in to halls at uni doesn't take that long. 1st years usually move in the weekend before Fresher's week which is the week before you start lectures proper.
So providing you don't go on holiday the week before the start date you'll be ok. A-level results day is 13th August so you won't miss that.
I found it really good going away for a week with my best friend before we separated to go to different unis, we have really good memories :)

Most university websites give 20 August as the A level results day this year, although it was the 13th August last year. Could you give a link as it's obviously important to the OP.

The Telegraph education supplement had the 13th August as GCE results day as does AQA and it is usually the second thursday of August. However I just checked UCAS who states that it will be the 20th of August. So I suggest the OP checks with their school.
