    Hi

    Try looking in Tesco :)

Is is currently out of stock on its website but I managed to get one at my local store.

I got a Dell 530 Quad Core (Intel), 320 gig hard drive, 2 gig ram with dual DVD rewrite for and Vista home premium for £299. That did not include a screen but you can either buy it with one (cant remember the price) or just pick a screen up from aria.co.uk

    Hope this helps

You never did tell us whats the spec of your old pc and whats wrong with it. I am using a 7 yr old Hp that after a XP reinstall and more ram is now better than new all for £30

It's a Time P4M266-823X. It has a 2.00Ghz Intel Celeron Processor, 256MB Ram, 40GB hard drive and a chunky 17" monitor. The many problems with it include the 2.0 USB ports not working with digital cameras, memory sticks & mobile phones (excluding an old 3 phone), it has 2.63GB left, is always making more virtual memory and it has a knack for crashing.

Also it is extremely slow & has never been reformatted to free up space and I've read this can take around a week if this hasn't been done before.

I don't mind too much spending the money on the Acer or perhaps the Dell from Tesco that has been recommended as I see it as an investment and a constant reminder to do my best on my course

    Ah... OK.

You maybe don't want to completely rule out doing a Windows reinstall, upgrading the RAM and adding a second "slave" hard drive. But as a former Time owner (heck, what a mug I was!) a complete replacement is probably not such a bad idea...

    hiya
to reformat the pc all you do is back everything you want to keep up on dvd's external hard drive etc
and run the disks that came wth the PC, takes a few hours to reformat even if its not been done before

Do a clean install and uprade the RAM to min 512MB. That should speed it up considerably.
Real problem is the hard disk. You need about 6GB minimum free space on that to make it run properly. So if you need more than 32GB storage then either buy a larger hard disk-or buy a new PC.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)
