Please can you tell me if th OR is nasty or nice during the inteviews? Do they use 'grilling' method to get information out of you? I am very scared and worried about the OR interview - more so than meeting the Judge.
Is there certain things that you can say or can't say in front of them?

No, they're human just like the rest of us. They can be quite formal, and it can feel like they are digging because in essence they are. They are digging to find out what you did with your money, how it was spent, etc. When you speak to them, keep the information to a minimum, be honest, and don't waffle!Get free advice before embarking on bankruptcy: CCCS 0800 138 1111 National Debtline 0808 808 4000

mine was lovely i suppose it depends on the day they are having
it seems that it is an examiner that makes the call not normally the actual official receiver ie his low paid assistant and they generally seem to be a nice bunch according to most of the reports on the forum however the best option is to not make small talk and answer the questions honestly..
after all you are already bankrupt by then and they are just the people who sort out your mess to make your discharge possible i suppose if you have been naughty and or reckless they will ask more deep questions but the majority on here seem to say they worried about nothing in the end (my wife had 3 brandies whilst on the phone)
hope this helps

My OR was matter of fact, and quite pleasant on the phone, did do some digging though and when he said to me "would you say your troubles started after your relationship breakdown 3 years ago" I finally got it through my thick head that they had. Probably first time id admitted it to anyone including myself. Please dont worry, the guys are just doing their job"I told you I was ill" Spike milligans headstone0

Stupidly and regretably, mine started when I let my very owned brother used my name to start a business - it just snow balled from there when I found out he left with his girlfriend with 30k in Sept 06 and left me with all the debts plus liability of the lease, etc. I have been living in fear over the last 2 1/2 years - bailiffs at the door, piles of mails - no courage to open them and the thought of it makes me sick. I unplugged the phone - dare not answer any calls, I still do now but I felt that I am slowly getting my life back. Very slowly but still hurt tremendously. Thanks for your advise. Much appreciated, everyone. You guys have given me hope. Thank you.0

Mine was lovely, she could have been nicer.Accept your past without regret, handle your present with confidence and face your future without fear0

I suppose at the end of the day, you are probably one of 10-20 people they speak to that week so in fact, you are merely a name and number in a huge list of others.
If you get one that seems a bit nasty I doubt it is personal.
Personally I am terrified about the call but from reading these forums I feel my fear is misguided.0 -
Please don't worry about OR's. I was really worried about it too but i need not of been.
My interview was carried out by the Examiner, like the vast majority of other people.
Mine was really pleasant, friendly almost, approachable about questions i had but above all very professional. I came off the phone thinking what a lovely lady she was.
As previous posters have said, during the interview, answer the questions honestly and as accurately as you can, don't waffle, as there can be some long pauses during the interview while things are being written down. Have a glass of water with you along with a pen and paper if you have any questions for them.
Things are never as bad as they seem, its just the great unknown.
Good luck.0 -
No, you've nothing to worry about.
I spoke to an examiner on the phone and he was pleasant and businesslike but never curt or rude.
I also went in personally to hand over my cash and met one of the assistants there. The OR's office building was a bit faceless, but she was really very nice. Whilst there, I signed my IPA and she actually asked me if I was sure I was happy to go ahead with it.
All in all a perfectly human bunch.0 -
I'll echo what everyone else has said....I had a face to face interview nearly 2yrs ago now & to be honest turned up at the receivers office in a fair old panic, the receptionist told me to go sit in a waiting room and the receiver would be with me soon.........sat in the room when a guy dressed in a nike sweater & jeans comes in, me being helpful said "have you checked in with reception? if your waiting for the receiver" to which he replies.....I am the receiver!! set the whole interview off to a good start & he was still laughing about it at the end
they're not a bad bunch...be honest & open (not too waffly!) answer the questions they ask & you'll be fine...they do this job 5 days a week & have more than likely seen a lot worse that your caseWe all die. The goal isn't to live forever, the goal is to create something that will0
