When you go to a supermarket, DON'T BUY the item at the front, always reach to the back and grab that item (perishable stuff). Today i went to Co-Op, the item at the front had a best before date of 7th Feb., the same item at the back had a best before date of 17thFeb.!!!:money: Leave the short dated stuff for the dunces!!

And the home shopping pickers. :whistle:0 -
On the normal shelves, supermarkets nearly always put the item they make the least money on (sometimes loss leaders) on the bottom shelf and the most money at eye level. So check at the bottom for the cheapest items.0

Funnily enough I often find the items at the front have a later BB date than items at the back - but I think some of the staff in my stores tend to be a bit lazy. They just pile new stock on top and in front of older stuff.
Bottom line is always check dates on fresh/perishable goods .
Also gives you a good idea on what items you might find drastically reduced tomorrow. For example, if they have a whole display of eggs with tomorrows sell by date, you can bet your bottom dollar they will have the price slashed to clear them out, 'cos who is going to pay full price when you can reach behind and get eggs that are 10 days fresher?0 -
Wow, what a scoop, I'd never have thought of that unless you had told me (yes that is sarcasm )
Of course the shorter dated stuff is at the front, because (unsurprisingly) the Supermarket needs to shift that first so that they don't lose money, as a previous poster stated, it's called stock rotation. We have removed your signature - please contact the forum team if you are not sure why - Forum Team0 -
