Replacement Flat Roof

We are looking to have the roof on our extension replaced. The existing felt roof is not leaking at the moment, but at nearly 20yrs old is coming to the end of it's life.

We were thinking of an alternative covering to felt...... maybe rubber or GRP, has anyone any experience with these coverings.

Also the roof needs to be insulated as it hasn't any insulation at all at the moment.

Any recommendations or views welcome, and rough ideas of cost size approx (20' x 8')

WE had a large bay window and porch done with some drainage and boards across with EPDM I think it costs use about £700 and should last 20+ years

We also have a intregal garage and a small rear extension in EPDM and its not as thick or better laid down that what we has done with bay and porch.

The EPDM is just glued down
  • Did you have the boards replaced, I think we need to as we want insulation?

yes we had the boards replaced as the old stuff was chip board,
the new EPDM comes as one sheet, you dont have joints like as in a tarred felt roof & you dont have to paint it or put white chippings on it. which normally blow off in the wind & end up in your gutters.

Yes we had new board I think they laid it over the previous ones, to give more height. The laid down some triangle shaped wood around the edges so water wont run down the front and allowed a drainage gap and a drain pipe to allow water to run down safely
