Sorry if this is a bit of a daft question but I bought two Coyenne Du Comice pears and it says pollination Concorde. Can it pollinate itself as I have two or do I need to get a Concorde?
You may be OK if there are pear trees in neighbouring gardens, luckily for me next door have a Concorde and I have just bought a Buerre Hardy from LidlNumerus non sum0 -
and I have no idea what to do with it

Those Lidl specials.
I know it can't got outside as there's still frost. It's still in the packaging with the soil root.
Do I pot it until the weather improves?
No, just pop in in a cool place for a week or two till the ground thaws then plant.0 -
Well its like any fruit, if the fruit is growing sooner or later it will start to ripen, just before that is when you net it.err.... stupid question of the day, when do you net it and how do you do that?

Its quite well known that if you don't net cherries then the birds will leave you nothing.
How you do it..........
is up to you, most people just throw a anti bird net over a small tree, I have heard of complete cherry tree cages. Quite how you would net a medium sized tree I have no idea tbh, I've never grown a cherry tree for exactly these reasons, picking something like a plum instead. Freedom is not worth having if it does not include the freedom to make mistakes.0 -
Oh God......I went mad and got three trees in my Lidl.....
A Stella cherry, a Victoria plum and a cooking apple....:j the cooking apple is to replace one that died, the plum is because I like plums and the cherry - because it was there and I was paying on a card and it seemed wrong to leave it behind....
I now have to find somewhere to put them....in our overgrown garden in need of a complete remodel.
You should have seen the look on him indoors face.....
So do I need to stake them? Do they need any stuff putting in the hole with them?Well behaved women rarely make history.0 -
You may need to stake them for the early years, but once the roots get going they will be OK without stakes
If your soil is normal garden stuff then no need to add anything, but if you feel you should then add some rotted horse muck, or used grow bags, or a sprinking of chicken poo pellets or multi purpose compost, but TBH normal soil is fine, get them used to itNumerus non sum0
