Who Would Meet The Cost Of This?

Hi Guys!
Just after some info if possible.
The council put in a Stannah stairlift 3 years ago and I received a full grant to cover the costs. I am very appreciative of this as I can now sleep in my own bed upstairs.
Last week I received a letter from Stannah stating that as it is now 3 years old it is out of warranty. It will cost approx £400pa to cover this if I decide to go ahead and wondered if I could ask for help towards this
It seems an awful lot of money and you just get a yearly check for this, but if it breaks down etc, it will cover you from 9-5pm, but if it breaks before those hrs...it will cost more:eek:
Are there other companies who would cover the stairlift but cheaper? I dont have a problem paying for this service, but this amount seems very high.
We are on IS, CA and full DLA.
Thanks in advance.

i think warranties are extras so you're not really entitled to any help for them. You might ask the people who paid for the stairlift in the first place as they might help but i'm doubtful.
Not sure about other companies but i'm sure someone more knowledgable will come along and help.0 -

Thanks for the quick reply.
It was through my OT at our local council who also provide my daily care through direct payments.
I need something to cover my stairlift not breaking down-if it breaks I can't get upstairs to bed.
Thanks again.

Try calling the OT for guidance, I managed to get one fitted for my Mum and the social services department covered the servicing etc, we never got to 3 years as she sadly died a few months after it was installed but at least she got the benefit like yourself of sleeping in her own bed and using the bathroom safely.0

I am really sorry to hear that. I will call my OT tomorrow and ask for some advice.
I sound like I am being tight but I just think £400 is alot to pay annually. The thing is I have had alot of probelms with it as it goes around a corner and sometimes just cuts out and if this happens....I am knackered and there isnt enough room for my OH to get me out either:eek:   ....I dont want to be there FOREVER:o

Visions of Bryan Potter from Phoenix nights spring to mind here sorry:o0 -
Thanks nearlyrich...that made me laugh!
My OT has emailed me back and has said that the council runs a maintenance list for clients who have had equipment installed under a grant and where the original warranty has expired but I will need a financial assessment.
I have called the number she gave me and I have paperwork coming out that I have to fill in.
Thanks everyone.
