What Can I Do? - Overcharged by BHS

Hello all,
I was shopping in BHS Birmingham at the weekend, buying lots of different bits and pieces for my forthcoming wedding. Within those, we bought 3 shrugs. At purchase, the receipt was put straight into the bag and it was only this morning that I came to look at it. It turns out they have charged me for 4 shrugs instead of the 3 I have. That's an extra £35 they've charged me.
Is there anything I can do? How do I prove that this is their error and that I don't have 4 shrugs? I've never been in this position before.
I don't live near Birmingham so going back into the same shop would be tricky, but it's £35 I can ill-afford to lose.
Thank you in advance.

Officially, no. A price was given for the goods you wanted to buy. You accepted the price, paid and left the building but...
... try ringing them and explain the situation. They may check stock levels and agree with yourself and give you your money back. They may have CCTV that backs up your complaint. You have your receipt so it should help narrow their search down if you give them the details on it.
Just remember to be nice and calm and explain the situation to them. Don't shout at them or get too frustrated. This way you have more chance of getting your overcharge back...0 -
I got charged for the same top twice in the Next sale once. I was in the position that I could go back into the store, but explained the situation, took the top with me and they gave me a refund no argument. I was very calm with them and I was pleasantly surprised that they refunded without hesitation.
I would back up what Sweep9 said and phone BHS to complain and just explain everything as you have in your post. Even offer to show them piccies of your wedding at a later date to prove that only 3 shrugs were used0 -
I got a good deal at BHS 2 weeks ago - a leather jacket that was orignally £129 was reduced to £49, but at the checkout I was only charged £29."You were only supposed to blow the bl**dy doors off!!"0

** shrugs
I would find out the store Managers name by ringing up(make sure you don't get given the duty Managers name.
Ring back ask to speak to her, just tell her what happened.
Suggest they can check their cctv if they want.0 -

Maths lessons?
I'd notice if I was asked to pay £35 more than I expected - why didn't you?You say it's £35 that you can ill afford to lose yet you facilitated that loss by your lack of care - take it on the chin and learn from it.
I wouldn't give you a refund - where is your proof that you DIDN'T have four shrugs in your carrier bag?:hello:0 -

or they could check the stock levels for said item against what the system thinks they sold and it should find that the system thinks they have gained 1 unit, but this approach is long winded than checking the cctv, but to be honest OP you should have been looking at the total to see if it tallied up with what you worked it out to be, even a rough figure would be enough0 -
