Using timer-device on appliances

evening all the washing machine I want to buy doesn't have a delayed start option and this is one of the functions I would ideally like - the rest of the machine makes up for it I hope. I was wondering if it would be possible to use one of those things you use when you're away to plug in lamps so they come on and go off at particular times. Any reason why it wouldn't work on a washing-machine?

it will work fine, but if you really want a delayed start, why don't you buy a washing m/c that has this feature - it is clearly important to you and therefore worth the extra cost.....0

I use a timer plug on my washing machine no problem. Just set up the plug with the correct timings, set up the machine as normal (including pressing the start button). The washing machine won't actually switch on and start filling with water until the plug clicks over onto the preset time.Declutterbug-in-progress.⭐️⭐️⭐️ ⭐️⭐️0

some wont work...
mine wont - the "go" button isnt actualy an on or off switch - its just a push button and the electronics on the machine sence it..... without having power to its usless and would not work with a timer!!!
if this is a feature you want - i would go and find a machine which has that feature built in otherwise its a gamble if the machine will work on a timer as you desire!0 -
you need to make sure the timer you want to use is capable of handling the power.. some timers are rated to only take low wattage.0

Are you on economy seven?
If not it dosen't matter when you use the washer the price of electricity is the same night or day.0 -
Mine's like that, but I set the timer to "on", set the machine up, press the start button, then switch the timer back to "timed". The machine restarts again with no problem when the timer clicks on.some wont work...

Thats not the only reason to use a timer..
Perhaps they want the washing to be ready for when they get up to hang out but dont want it sitting in Rinse Hold all night.
Perhaps they're going out and want to set the Washing Machine & Dishwasher as they leave but have low water pressure and the other half is just about to jump in the shower...0 -
thanks very much to all who replied - sorry I hadn't looked until now. I know I should get a machine with this function ideally, but I've decided on a Miele because of the quietness and reliability and as the cheapest one with this function is nearly £800 I can't justify the extra expense. We're not on Economy 7 - as one of the posters says it's more like if I'm going to be out all morning I'll set it to start a couple of hours before I return home rather than having it sat all creased up for a few hours. I will look at the wattage on the timer switches - I got a pack of 3 for £4.99 in Sainsburys which I thought was a good buy. thanks again0
