cover it with white paint first,, if u use very cheap white paint u will prob need a couple coats if its really dark so u may be better off using one coat of a better quality one

    good luck
When you know better you do better
  • Use polycell base coat, it is excellent for covering dark walls and provides a sound base.
What goes around - comes around
give lots and you will always recieve lots
  • Use a proper undercoat as suggested above - I've tried using cheap white paint and you quite often end up doing 2 or 3 coats to cover the previous colour.
Why pay more than you have to?

Just spent the day painting over dark blue paint with the above mentioned polycell basecoat. Does the trick I reckon, but read the instructioins properly, unlike me...I started off with a nice thick lambswool roller and ended up with a finish almost like artex - yuk. Re-read the instructions and carried on with a short haired roller, much better but I had to go over the first wall again to smooth it out. Wasted a lot of paint there but still better than 3-4 coats of 'pretty pink'!
