with the exchange rate 'adjustment' wont it mean that anything brought in from abroad [and this is a big proportion isn't it?] go up in price ? And wouldn't that push up inflation? If that was the case, wasn't the traditional reaction to raise BoE rates?
In which case, would there be a reason why rates might rise again during the coming months, rather than stay low for 1 year + as suggested by others?

But hey, what do I know. I'm not a skilled and knowledgable person on these matters. I guess only bankers are skilled enough to be able to accurately predict this stuff :rotfl:

How long do you think we will have low interest rates? Months? Years?

What % do you consider low.

If you mean below 5% then my answer would be

2 years 7 months and 23 days approx.

What do people think of the possibility that we will keep low interest rates permanently as a way of managing our economy like the Japanese?
  • I am not up to speed with how the Japanese run their economy.
Could you give me a brief heads up to keep me in the loop.
    If U could it would B gr8.

They were 0% for 6 years. I don't think we'll see the same - inflation will kick in once the printing presses start working and hyperinflation will be the worry.
  • There was a man on the news talking about morgage rates sorry i dont know who he was he was an expert who deals in banking he predicted interest rates to stay low for 18 months and then they would slowely start to creep up again .
But who knows !!! im hoping they stay low for longer

What was his definition of "low" though? As others on this (and other) threads have mentioned, if you look back historically, anything under 5% could be classed as "low", but of course there's a world of difference (and interest) between 'low 1%' and 'low 5%'.
