hi, just wandering if anyone could give me some advice,
my partner was self employed so we have bt phone and unlimited broadband in the business name, however he is out of work so since october we have been recieving jsa. we are in serious financial hardship (possibly looking at bancruptsy) at the mo and barely have enough to live on let alone pay out to bt (approx £45 a month) has anyone any ideas if we can opt for a lower package or cancel completely given the circumstances.
we spoke to bt last month and they said we would have to buy our way out our contract.... approx £180 but because it is in a business name and the business is folding could we get out of it that way? (the phone/business is registered to our hom address)(approx half way through 18 month contract)
any advice greatly appretiated. thanks

Unless the business went formally bankrupt it can not just close up shop and ignore any outstanding bills (or bills to close a contract.)0

Speak with a financial advisor about your situation. If you bankrupt your business, then that is also against the director/owner of the business also. This may effect you getting service in your personal name as cross checks will be made and your service would be restricted etc.

thanks for the advice. do you know the likely hood of them allowing us to go onto a lower price plan? has anybody done this? thanks0

I don't know about business broadband contracts, but if it is a residential broadband contract that has been put in the business' name, you can downgrade by paying a downgrade fee of around £40.thanks for the advice. do you know the likely hood of them allowing us to go onto a lower price plan? has anybody done this? thanks
But would recommend working out first if the saving made in rental is more than the £40 paid to downgrade first. If saved £2710 and only spent the interest (Based on a return of 5%), you would have enough money to pay your TV Licence every year. Saving you £7452.50 over a period of 55 years, based on you buying a license from the age of 20 until your 75 at a cost of £135.50.0
