Strong flour (start with white) - must be strong
Fast acting yeast (must say fast acting)
A small amount of butter or oil
    Water (tap)
    Small amount of salt
  • Make sure you have some table salt in the house - when i got mine all I had was a salt grinder which wasn't very good anyway and I was soo desperate to make a loaf i spent half an hour twisting a salt mill to get the amount needed!!!:rotfl: :rotfl:

    Hi
make sure you buy strong bread flour that is suitable for breadmakers ,I often use a supermarkets own breadmaker brand which always works well. I never use dried milk (it is always an optional extra on my breadmakers recipes though.)
make sure you buy butter or oil , granulated sugar (even for regular bread !!) sachets of special yeast suitable for breadmakers , and salt (normal table salt)
good luck with your first effort
    regards Jazz

I dont bother with dried milk for mine - prefer the bread without it.
  • Thanks for the replies, how many loaves does 1 bag of flour produce and which type of oil?

Pretty much any type of oil, I like nutty ones.

Not sure how much flour per load the MR model requires, thats what dictates how many loafs per bag. You'll get at least one and some left over.
  • Thanks Lorian for that.

Does that mean you have to buy in a large amount of flour though ready for the next loaves you need to bake for the family?

Try your local bakers.....they will often sell you the strong bread flour they use. In Chesterfield there is a chain of bakers called Oven Door, they will sell you yeast and the flour that they use. Its really cheap and excellent for making beautiful bread. They will literally fill up one of those large clear plastic handled containers (for dog food, soap powder etc) for about £1.00.

Also there is a really good book of recipes - the complete bread machine cookbook by Sonia Allison (isbn 9780091879570) which does loads of variations, like cheddar cheese & pale ale bread (which is gorg). Also it does a few gluten free breads, which I'm supposed to stick to and rarely do, to my own detriment, however they are nice :rotfl:. Theres nothing like the smell of fresh bread - recession or not. GOOD LUCK!!
  • Strong Bread flour (I use either Tesco or Asda just as good as the branded flours)
    Yeast
    Sugar
    Salt
    Thats a basic recipe
Try the library they have lots of books on breadmaking it might help
Blessed are the cracked for they are the ones that let in the light

I walk past ASDA evey day, I find its usually easier for them to keep the stuff on their shelves until I need it.
