Job help please

I suspect that i may soon be out of a job, i work for a small company where i do all the accounts/admin work and i have recently seen a document that i think means they are training someone else to do my job, now i know my boss knows i have seen this as i put it in with his post but he has so far said nothing, so i am now just waiting for the axe to fall!!

Firstly, how could they get rid of me to bring in someone else, i have had no warnings or compliants about work, i have worked here for 2 1/2 years!!

I am fairly sure the person who is being trained will not want to work full time as i do, and yet when i asked to reduce my hours by 1 hour per day i was told that someone had to be here all day to answer the phones.

Secondly, would you say anything to the boss or just wait, i have registered with some agencies but there are not many jobs out there and i have not heard anything from them.

Thanks for any advice

Hi - your boss cannot legally make you redundant and take someone else on to do your job (he has to make the post redundant to do that).

Could it be that he wants to take someone else on to train them - to help you out or at least provide cover when you are off sick? Maybe the business is expanding and he wants more help in the office?

Personally, I wouldnt say anything about the letter unless your boss broaches the subject first and I wouldn't be quitting my job anytime soon either.

    Thanks for your reply,

The company is very quiet and there is not enough work for me let alone anyone else and i have had only two days sick in the two years i have been working here!!

If it was an invoice then my guess is it is perhaps a copy invoice and that it relates to training that you have had? I think you are reading too much into it, you have been there for nearly 3 years, have had minimal time off sick so I think that your job is pretty secure.

It could even have been a new invoice because the company concerned forgot to send an invoice for any training that you may have been given. It certainly isnt anything to worry about.

It's probably the yearly invoice for ongoing Support for the accounting/payroll package.
The company would get one of these every year, to cover upgrades in the ongoing new payroll legislation and telephone support for you on the package helpline.
My (ex, as I'm now redundant :( ) company got one every year for my payroll software, it was about £4k a year...I wouldn't worry!

    Hi

its not a yearly invoice, it states the name of the person and the courses that are being paid for.

If you do the accounts and payroll then surely you could mention it to him.
If i found a 'strange' invoice in my accounts my boss would expect me to query it. I wouldnt just go ahead and pay it. Someone has to authorise it for payment. Ask him about it. Even its just to put your mind at rest.

OIC...well, that's a bit different then! Do you know this person, i.e. is it someone else who works there? ( As someone else suggested, they may be training someone else to give you cover for holidays etc.)
If not, now you've said it had someone's name on it, I'd be a bit suspicious too....but I'd ask for a meeting with your manager and ask outright!
(A similar thing happened to me a few years ago; I'd always been in sole charge of the company payroll, then found out that my then manager had got a payroll bureau rep in, for a quote! Turns out he was looking at cost cutting, and I was the cost he was planning to cut! )
It didn't happen, I kicked up about the sneakiness of it, he forgot about it; then he got made redundant. I kept the job....but now, 5 years later, I got made redundant too!):(

They could be training people to cover other areas when busy or when others are off sick
