Online shop mis-pricing, do they have to honour the price?

I was looking last night at buying a cooker hood at an online retailer, priced at £320 plus £35 delivery, I added it to my basket decided I would have it and went to check out. However the price altered and appeared as £32.0 plus delivery £35 = £67.00. I went right through to putting in my credit card number but daren't do it, in case I lost my money and was left with nothing.

Checked site again this morning and it is still doing the same thing. Also did the same thing with a gas hob but nothing else as far as i could see.

So do you think the shop on accepting my money would be obliged to supply me with the goods at this price, or could they decline?

I suppose they could make it awkard by delaying delivery in hope i cancel!

If the sale goes through someone would have to ring me to confirm delivery and would notice the price was wrong.

I used to think if's too good to be true it proberly is, but having saved loads through offers with Martin's money savers I'm no longer sure.

What do you all think?

Whatever you do...don't tell anyone on here where it is or what site, the model or anything like that as the ebay idiots will order hundreds of them!!

Give it a try, the worst is they notice the price error and refund your purchase price which you tend to find their terms & conditions will allow. If it is an obvious pricing error then there is no point trying to appeal it as the law will side with them, but if they don't notice then you'll get yourself a bargain!

Once they have delivered of course please remember to come back and post again, even if no-one else bags one at least there will be some of us watching the site checking for future bargains.

Usually they have to have taken your money for a contract to be formed. Sometimes if the price is so small it's ridiculous, the company will argue this in court and be successful, i.e. the customer knew it was a misprice not a genuine offer. (such as the argos £1 TV)

Go for it, you haven't got much to lose :) If you pay by credit card you'll have protection in the unlikely event of them not delivering and not refunding you.

When I find misprices I order one or two and often they are honoured. If their system is largely automated it will slip through the net, many systems only flag up potential misprices after receiving an unusually high number of orders.

They may even notice the mispriced order and honour it as a gesture of good-will, you have alerted them to the misprice so they can correct it.

Oh and of course don't mention the item/site on here :) If the order's successful, and you've told friends and family (they should come first ;)), then post it here if you like.
  • comet honoured a misprice of a freezer last year with us. OK, it was "only" £50 less than it should have been initially, but it was still honoured.
    Worth a try.
and like someone else has said, don't tell anybody the link until after!

As everyone else has said, go for it, jsut plead ignorance if they don't deliver!

From what I'm aware of if they take money from your CC, they must honour the price?

Which shop was iy again?! :D Only kidding!

This happened to me this week i saw a bag online advertised for £16 i knew it should have been alot more than that so i ordered two and i payed buy mastercard. They went through at £32 got an email with order number and i had also printed out the order just for my own reference incase they said they had never been £16. Anyway as soon as i had ordered i went back on the site to check the bag and low and behold it was no longer there it was taken off within minutes. So i thought no way will i get them but yesterday two bags turned up and both had price tags on for £45 and i was charged £32 for both.So maybe they do honour things as long as like the other guy said dont go mad and order loads.

Apollo - Hanley (possibly other stores)

Advertise free delivery in the yellow pages then try to charge.

we bought a chest freezer which they price matched to another store and they gave us free delivery when I pointed out their yellow page advert.

Twice I've had free delivery from them because the yellow pages lasts a year befofe you can change your advert

Dont know if other shops have made the same mistake.

Thanks for all advice, hadn't thought about credit card protection.

So have put in the order, was also going to order a fridge from another web site but decided to order that from them as well, so the overall cost is bumped up so may not look so small. So if they do honour the deal will have made something out of me. Ok, it eases my conscience a little!

So will wait to see if I get a phone call this week about the delivery or thier mistake!! Will keep you all posted of the out come.
  • I ordered and paid for 2 sofas that were being advertised on the MFI website at £39 each. They should have been £390 each. Shortly after I'd ordered them the website then showed the correct price.

The order was honoured and both sofas delivered, total cost £78.00 - should have been £780.00- so that was me moneysaving at my best!
