Help/advise needed

Hi, can anyone tell me if it is OK for Barclays bank to take money from my account without notice, to pay my barclay card arrears. My account is only for my income support and incapacity benefit to be paid into.

Any help would be gratefully received.
Thanks

It's not ok, but it's legal. Change Banks

Because they can only deduct amounts owing to themselves unless you set up a direct debit or standing order. If your money was in another bank they would have to find another way of getting it off you. Also, you could shop around for a less morally bankrupt Bank (not easy, I know)

Oh, one kick in the head though is that Barclays may refuse to let you close the account now, and simply send it into overdraft if no money is going in so do be careful. Their tactics border on the corrupt

I didn't think anyone was able to just take money from your account without prior notice especially as it is benefit payments as it now leaves me no money to live on.

But thanks for the the advice - I will bear that in mind.
