Oh dear... just looked at the letter again... I've been inputting my account number instead of the customer number. What a dimwit.

At least you worked it out yourself!!
  • I have a bit of a problem in that I am abroad for several months - I could get my father to open the mail for me but it is a bit of a pain unless I can describe exactly what I want him to do - can someone describe the letters - do they come in envelopes clearly from ING? Do you need both letters in order to sign on to your account?

I think the return address on the back of the envelope is their Reading office, well on statements and promotional material anyway.

On a scale of 1 to 10, ING rates a minus 200 from me.

Got the email from them telling me my KE account was about to be transferred to them, and that I'd get a welcome letter and a letter with my new User ID. Neither arrived!

Today I get a letter with my PIN number, and it it is quite obvious why I didn't get the first two communications ... the address on the letter has the wrong road in it, despite the fact that my address was perfectly correct on the KE database. It was just chance that the postman on duty today recognised my name and put it through my letterbox.

    ING ... I wouldn't waste my time.

A question for those who have received their ING pin. Is it a five or six digit number?
Looking at the log in process it would appear that a 6 digit number is required, the number I received and revealed only has five! I'm 100% sure it was only five and the unfortunate thing is that being security obsessive I've shredded the document after memorising the number!:o
I'll need to 'phone them anyway about this and have a new number sent but I'd like confirmation before doing so.
It all seems hardly worthwhile and a waste of their time and mine because my KE balance is "0" anyway and that will be the sum they're transferring.

No need to memorise the number or shred it. It is an initial PIN and is only used the first time you log in when you are required to set a 6 digit PIN of your own.

Oh yes there is, it had my name and address on it and indicated that I have an ING account.
Or do you personally just throw stuff with those details thereon straight into the bin?
  • I also applied for an account on the 11th Jan and sent a cheque which was cashed on the 20th Jan. Does anyone know what bonus rate I would have, is there anyway of checking on ING's site what interest rate the account has?

I think noh simply meant that PIN will not let anyone access the account as it will not be valid once you have entered it once. I think shredding it and committing it to memory before you've tried to use it is a little bit extreme considering what the PIN is. I would destroy it carefully once up and running.

I was intending to choose option (1) and make a note in my diary to think about it again in 6 months time.
Has anyone got a good reason to choose option (2) instead?
