How long for a new V5

Hi all,

Im waiting on a new V5 for a car i purchased last week, the Tax disc expires at the end of feb, so without the car being registered to me i wont get the tax disc reminder (V11 form), what can be done if ive not received either before the 28th Feb??

One other thing i have noticed is that all the dealership paperwork has added an 'e' in my surname, so the V5 will probably be spelt wrong aswell, is this going to cause a problem as my insurance certificate is going to have a different surname, albeit only slightly

Thanks

  • When you bought the car you will should have been given the green slip from the old V5. You can use this slip to tax the car while you are waiting for the new V5 to come through the post. This will only be able to be done at the postoffice and not online, unless you get the new V5 in the meantime that is!

I had my new V5 through within a week of buying my current car last month, so that will give you an idea of waiting times at the moment..:)
  • V5's can take up to 4 weeks to arrive, but normally are with you in 2-4weeks.

As passatrider says if you have green tear off slip you can tax using that,

Anyone know if you can sell a car while waiting for the new V5 to come back from the DVLA? I have the green new keeper's slip.

Bought the car less than 2 weeks ago but decided to get a different one (both cheap bangers :D)

No. My surname is spelt wrong on the V5 and spelt correctly on the insurance documents. I didn't have a problem buying car tax online.
