Half Term Snowboarding on the cheap...??

Hi all,
I dont have much experience of winter holidays, and I was wondering if anybody had any advice on whether theres a decent and cheap way I can take my son snowboarding over the half term (Feb. 16th-20th).
I know its very short notice, but my daughter got onto a school skiing trip at the last minute, and I'd like to take my son away so he's not too bored!
Searching for winter ski holidays I havent found anything remotely cheap for that week, but was wondering if theres any ways you can get around things?
I'm pretty good with other destinations figuring things out for myself, and booking different things in different places, so dont always have to go with a package deal, but with a ski/snowboarding holiday, there's so much to think about (& possibly forget!) eg. travel, accommodation, transfers, ski passes, equipment hire, etc.
Sometimes a little local knowledge goes a long way!
Any advice would be appreciated!
Thanks.

After doing some more searching, I'm now looking at ski options within the UK, so if anybody has any info there, that would be great!0
