Hi - does anyone have any experience of painting their silver plastic coloured loudspeakers black ? - Idont really want to shell out for anymore speakers ,but the colour of them does not match the tv anymore - so wondering if anyone had tried and what the outcome was ?

A couple of things - you need a primer designed for plastics first. I believe this forms a bond with the plastic. Otherwise the paint is likely to flake off. Test in an inconspicuous area if you're not sure.
Spray paint would probably give you the most even coat but you need to be careful with the electronics etc. Would probably give the best finish if you took it apart. Otherwise make sure you mask everything well. Lots of thin coats is better then trying to do it in one coat (where the paint is likely to run).
For paint - i would recomend Halfords own brands. Used them to spray paint guitars in the past and they give good even coverage.0 -
Hey - thanks for that WobblyGoblin ,I think I might have a go at it !0

You could of course also try the 'Plastikote' range of sprays and primers sold at DIY stores. Approx £5 a can, but also available in paint on versions if you are bit mental with a sprayer!
My brother used it on a TV some years ago that was black, and apart from a few scuffs here and there, it is still silver and looks fine.0 -
I have used the plasti-kote stuff. Their metallic paint was quite good but their laquer was terrible.
The Halfords stuff is designed to be car paint so there is a large range of colours and I have found them a bit more even in their spraying. Not sure if they do a plastic-specific primer though so the plasti-kote range might be the best place for that. I've seen their paint on versions but not tried them. I truly reckon that spraying isn't that difficult although you do need an area to be able to do it.0
