Buying a new TV, quick question.

  • Well thank you everyone, think I have my head around it now!
Unfortunately no relatives offering to climb ladders and fiddle with aerials, so that narrows my options slightly.

After your great advice KT1985, I checked that I was in a Freeview area, and I am. Next I borrowed my friends old set top freeview box (one of the first ones out I think!). I plugged it all in on my dining room portable and bingo! I had Freeview!

So what I shall do is buy a little box for dining room, just for the extra channels etc and keep front room as it is with Sky etc and when I get my new TV for my bedroom (with built in Freeview), I will try and use one of these?

I'm guesssing if the aerial doesnt work then I will have to call out an 'Aerial man'! Hopefully it will, I dont live in the countryside, but in Medway.

Also last question, what did you mean Treadway1 when you said I didnt need a BT line if more than a year old?
I've had Sky+ just over 3 years. Does this mean that if I wanted sky in my bedroom (when I can watch different channels to those being watched downstairs), then I just have to call Sky, buy the box and pay the extra £10pm? When I last enquired about this (18 months ago), they said that I needed the BT line upstairs. BT quoted me £220!!!!!

That was either a quote for a totaly new line which you don't need or BT just charging a fortune for a job any DIYer could do.
