British Gas - Advice Please

Good evening

I moved home in September 08 and set up with british gas for my electric (Its a new build so we don't have gas) and i have been having problems ever since. Constantly over estimating on the meter readings, problems speaking to customer services etc.

We have a economy 7 day/night meter which i gave them. I kept telling them that the larger number 03999 was the night meter and 00965 was the day meter, as we are hardly in during the day. Which they agreed with me. I sent another set of meter reading on 04/02/09 of 05447 for the night and 02864 and now they say that we were wrong and the larger number is the day reading and smaller, the night one. So i have a £415.00 bill from sept to nov for a 2 bedroom energy efficient top floor apartment!

To top it all off I have noticed that i have Tier 1 and Tier 2 on my bill but no night rate at all.

Can they just charge me Tier 1 & 2 when i have a Day / Night meter?

    Are you sure the meters are the right way round and the timer is set right? Switch a kettle on and off at 1am to check. You'll have to hassle them and insist. (Note that day units can also have 2 tier prices if there is no daily standing charge. Night units are just one price.)

    BTW, double check you will be cheaper on the E7 tariff.
  • Well I gave British Gas 05447 night / 02864 day at 7.00pm. Then my boyfriend went downstairs at 8pm and got 05447 night / 02868 day. So the smaller one is changing but British Gas are adamant that the but if you go to enter some new meter readings online and click on the day - it says latest meter reading - 05447 on 04/02/09.
    Then I clicked on the night and it says latest night meter reading - 02864 on 04/02/09.

    The only prices i have on my bill is Tier 1 25.p and Tier 2 12p (fixed prices 2012). But nothing about Night Tariff.

    So I am really confused now. Am i stuck which just Tier 1 and Tier 2?

    On the front of the meter is a serial number - near a barcode.
    Make a note of this, with the above readings and times. and pass them on to BG (call/email/website/write).
    If you call, the CSA you speak to will not be able to resolve this themselves, but will need to pass the information on.
    You need to make sure they pass them on to the right team.
    First, get them to check if you are being billed as 1 rate or 2 rate (not just the readings they/you can see) as it sounds like the reads are being lumped togetgher and billed as a 1 rate meter.
    If this hasn't been done, when they correct that, they should also put the readings the right way round.
    If you are being billed on a 2 rate meter and the reads are the wrong way round, they may be able to fix it themselves, but agaiin might need to pass this on to back office to fix.
    Once this has been done and you have been billed correctly you'll know where you stand - but keep providing them with accurate reads.
  • I spoke to them this morning and they have said that i need to ring tonight with the serial number of the meter, then they can sort the meter readings out. They called it a twisted meter, I also told them about the traiff and said they will amend this when i ring them tonight.

    CSA asked me if i had storage heaters and i said Yes, I told them this when i joined. So hopefully i will get this sorted tonight.
