OK, I was browsing away earlier and was streaming a programme when laptop suddenly froze. It did nothing for a few minutes, then I got a blue screen saying windows shut down due to major threat/error (or words to that effect). Rebooted and nothing, tried safe mode and still nothing.
So far after several attempts I've managed to get to the windows logo screen twice before getting the blue screen again.
Now I've just turned laptop on again and I got the message press F1 to check system. So now i'm in system setup is there anything I need to check for or change?
Please help! Its DS's laptop and he is having a right hissy fit!!!!
It's a Toshiba running on win XP pro.
Edited to add: He has no recovery disk or any disk related to laptop or operating system at all. The pitfall of buying cheap and cheerful off ebay! Although should add its months old and been problem free until now.

Just wondering, the Boot priority currently states CD-ROM>LAN>FDD>HDD
Is that the problem? I haven't changed anything yet, don't want to make it any worse messing with things I don't know!
Oh and if anyone could help before Derby starts I'd be hugely grateful!!!!!!:rotfl:

changing boot order will not fix it, it's a corruption of XP by the sounds if it
not sure if a recovery CD will do, needs to say "operating system"Ex forum ambassador

Yes, as technophobic as I am, I'm quite aware of that!
Fortunately there are quite a few guys and gals on here who are very knowledgeable and very helpful, so I'm sure I'll get it sorted out eventually.**************************************

Thanks hun, will take a proper look at that tomorrow. Had a few JD's (and bit down a few nails) watching footie so probably best I wait until I have a totally clear head!
As an aside, does anyone have an idea of the cost for a new Toshiba charger? The one on my Laptop has a split in it. It's been one of those weeks! My cooker went belly up yesterday too!
BUT.............the blueboys won, so things are looking up! :j :rotfl:**************************************
