Joking about someone with Tourettes is not really on....my son, as part of his complex autism has tourettes and believe me, it is not a laughing matter at the time of the outbursts (becomes funnier later on telling it though).

Hmmm.... can't make your mind up eh Sue?

I'm afraid comedy always has a "target", and whilst it can make for an uncomfortable experience if you're close to that target, I'm afraid I'm of the view that there's really nothing to fear from challenging comedy.

I remember the storm about the old Brass Eye episode "about paedophilia". One of the funniest programmes I've seen, but then it wasn't really about paedophilia more peoples reactions to it.

I dunno, perhaps I'm insensitive, but I guess we're all different, and that's something to be thankful for.

    Basically no I can't!

Mind you, it is a different perspective if you are telling it as a person who has a direct involvement on a day to day basis rather than someone just taking the pee.

I don't mind people relating funny stories but taking the pee/making fun of a person because of a disability is not on.

It only becomes funnier (for me) after a decent interval of time has passed and the stress has lessened.
We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.

Was it not "Shamless" (TV C4) that had the courage to introduce a fairly sympathetic character with Tourettes ?

This thread seems to have degenerated into a bickering/arguing/taking offence thread, perhaps it would be wise just to let it close. It does seem as if this thread has gone completely off topic, have posters gone stir crazy by being housebound due to the weather:confused: Just my view FWIW;)

Although it's difficult to keep most threads on topic, I have to agree with the above, NDG is/was a well respected member of the board, lets keep the thread on the subject of her or don't post in it.

Sorry if I sound insensitive to Tourette's - of course it's no laughing matter. I've always wondered why sufferers tend to shout out naughty words though; a bit like some of the members on here who can't control what they type!

Having said that, I sometimes have an urge to say 'Oh F*** it!'..........
  • What's the story with carolt/!!!!!!? is she having PMT or something? She seems to be arguing with someone on almost every thread on this particular board.

carolt, try HRT and give us all a break for Christ sakes!

I for one am bloody tired of you turning every thread into the "carolt show". I've never seen such a self-obsessed person on any of the other forums. It must boil your blood for NDG to have a thread about her, and perhaps that's why you're trying to ruin it with all this arguing.

Just leave it carol, it's getting tiresome. No wonder NDG has taken a break.

I don't think Carolt would be able to get Husband Replacement Therapy with a personality like hers.:p

I don't think you can get PMT 24/7 365/366 days a year
She's just obsessed about never having being able to buy a house because of her various life choices and it colours her view of everything so she tries to turn every point into some supporting fact for how hard done by she is. Everyone else is wrong or stupid if they don't see the world as she does.... if she spent less time arguing how right she is and actually did something to change her situation regardless of the economic cycles it might be more productive but hey-ho live and let live....
