The 06 Saab 93 I had for a short time early last year kept doing this, going into limp home mode.
Turned out that a hose had become loose underneath and too much air was being taken in.
Garage replaced clamp and all was well last time I drove it.0 -
Try something simple first - get someone to change the fuel filter and put in some fuel treatment, may have 'gunk' in there. Next, may be an igintion coil needs replacing.
Try and stick to same brand of fuel - different makes use different additives that don't 'agree' with each other and that can really cause 'gunk' and stuff to block fuel filter etc. and cause running problems.Genie

Have a look at this thread. I'd love it to be simple, I truly would but the TDCI has had problems.
Try the simple stuff that doesnt cost money then join a ford forum or 2.
I've 2 tdci's and the stuff i've learned over the past 3 or 4 weeks makes me think it's only a matter of when, not if something like this will happen. No derivative seems exempt from problems.0 -
My Ford Focus TDCi did this and it ended up being the Fuel Filter. After it was replaced, never had the problem again.
I would get it hooked up the the diagnostics machine at a garage (Not a main [strike]st[/strike]dealers though) and see if there has been a fault code logged with the ECU?“Hardware: The parts of a computer system that can be thrown out of the nearest window!”0 -
From Honest John's website (Daily Telegraph):
"Things to watch out for - Mysterious 'Engine System Faults' on diesel leading them to lose power and revert to limp home mode may be caused by an intercooler pipe weld fault leading to a crack in the pipe. Problem of 1.6 and 2.0 16v diesels slipping into limp home mode put down to throttle butterflies sticking or their spindles wearing prematurely causing them to stick. The throttle position sensor identifies this and sends a message to the ECU to limit the engine to limp home mode."
Slightly OT, but does this engine really have a throttle butterfly? And if so, why?
Tried googling, didn't find any technicals on the engine.0
