My 6yr old daughter has had a blocked ear for almost 4 days now... it unblocked 2 nights ago... which she found very painful :( then it blocked again... she has had a little bit of a cold and cough.......

Do i - a) wait and see if it clears in a couple more days...

a few years ago my daughter had a blocked ear caused by wax so they said. she was in a lot of pain and even more pain when the ear popped so to speak.. i got drops from the doctors and i put them in at night with some cotton wool in the ear also some calpol and her ears popped during the night although it woke her up she was so sleepy she fell back to sleep again and the cotton wool stopped the air getting in and causing her more pain.. in the morning i put more drops in and within 24 hours she was clear.

if it doesnt clear up soon get her to the doctors otherwise she might get a infection in her ear..

I will definately try this tonight and see how she gets on......
hopefully this will do the trick..

...as she's also a slight temperature and headache and slight pain in ear i will give her calpol......and snuggle her up on the sofa, and put on her favourite dvd.... Barbie and the princess + the pauper....to get her mind off the pain..

hope your daughter is feeling better shouldnt take any chances with ears you must get help, the other night we thought our girls had been eating soap!!!!!!!! we rang nhs line for help and they were great put our minds at rest and i still havent seen the bar of soap it was massive they probably broke it up but it did look and smell delicious (orange)and i was left with two tiny pieces!

I have alot of bother with my ears, and ear drums normally perforate when I have a bad cold. I wouldn't put anything in my ears when I have a cold in case they are perforated and it goes behind the drum. Pain does normally subside once the drum perforates though and you can often get a lot of 'gunge' coming out of them. I would stick to Calpol and Nurofen until you see a doctor.

Don't know if I'd have put it quite like that.....but you are 100% right.

She's six years old and needs a doctor to check her ear out in person. Especially if you're saying she has a fever, as it could be a sign of an ear infection. She may have even put something in it. You shouldn't mess around with cotton buds or the likes and I would absolutely avoid heating a spoon of oil over a flame to then put in her ear.

I was a bit harsh but I really can't believe some folk have to ask, C'mon
for Christ sakes I mean, It should be treated in the appropriate manner..

I do wonder how some people survive as it just beggars belief...

Well I really can't believe that you think its acceptable to reply to the OP in such a manner
