Hi
Any advice or come across this before?
was made redundant on 20th Jan,
applied for job seekers allowance, found out today i'm being rejected due to my partner having a bursary for training to be a student. She gets £522 a month, out mortgage is £455 a month. So we are supposed to pay all bills, eat and survive on £16.75 a week!!! brilliant, i have applied for over 20 jobs and had a couple of interviews, not much luck yet,
this cant be right can it? i have worked all my life and never claimed anything, !!

Hi Star69
Unfortunately this is correct. It appears you did not qualify for JSA Contributory in your own right and I assume the student you refer to is your partner?
Therefore as she receives a bursary this is treated as income (less disregards for books etc) and the remainder is averaged over the number of weeks of her course year and if this exceeds £94.95 (JSA couple rate) then you have no entitlement to JSA Income Based and she is expected to provide for you.0 -
However, I think that you can apply for help with paying the interest on your mortgage.0

If you have worked all your life you should be entitled to JSA contributory for 6 months. You need to have paid enough NI contributions in the previous 2 tax years to make them qualifying years.0

No this is not the case - you have to be actually receiving JSAIB for mortgage interest assistance. He can only sign on for NI credit purposes - no moneatry benefit.0 -
You can apply for council tax benefit, but the claim must be in your name.0
